FAQ

You people sure have a lot of questions... 'What time does a taping start?' 'How do I get tickets?' 'Can I give Jay a kiss?' (That one freaks us out a little.) So, here you go -- all of your Frequently Asked Questions in one place and updated often.

Q: I have a funny headline that I would like to send to Jay. Instead of sending it by mail, could I email or fax it?

A: Unfortunately we can only accept original headlines when they are sent through the U.S. Postal Service. This allows us to check their authenticity. Not to mention, it cuts down on fax paper expenses.

NBC/The Tonight Show with Jay Leno c/o Headlines 3000 West Alameda Burbank, CA 91523

Q: If my headline is selected, will Jay read my name on the air?

A: Is that really why you're sending it, just to hear your name read? Actually we can't notify people when their headlines are on because we have so many. Sometimes Jay mentions what publication the headline came from, but he does not give out names of the people who sent them in for security reasons. You don't want a bunch of strangers getting a hold of you with a ton of random questions, trust us.

Q: How can I get an autographed photo of Jay?

A: Are you the one that's been hanging around the studio after tapings? Hmmm. For an autographed photo of Jay, please send the request in writing through the U.S. Postal Service.

Our address is:

NBC/The Tonight Show with Jay Leno c/o Autographs 3000 West Alameda Burbank, CA 91523

Q: I think I'm a pretty funny person (at least, that's what my parents keep telling me). May I submit jokes to Jay for monologue or skit consideration?

A: You know what's not funny? Rejection. And that is why the show does not accept unsolicited jokes or material of any kind. Sorry!

Q: I love Jay Leno! How can I get tickets to see a taping of the show?

A: We love him too! Click here and we'll take you to a page for full details... (Details on tickets, not our love.)

Q: What if I waited too long to get tickets through the mail and I really, really want to see a certain show?

A: You should get organized, for one thing! Lucky for you, a limited number of tickets are also available at the NBC ticket box on each show day. We only distribute tickets for that day's taping, so you must come on the day you wish to attend the program. The NBC ticket box opens at 8:00am. All available tickets are distributed to the public on a first come, first served (2) tickets per person basis. During peak periods, people will line up in advance of opening. Please use your own judgment as to how early to arrive in line.

This is your best chance of getting tickets on short notice, but please be aware that we hand out more tickets than there are seats, so you are not guaranteed to get in.

Q: What time does the show tape each day and what time do I need to show up?

A: If you already have tickets…the show generally tapes Monday through Friday at 4:30pm (Pacific Time) and takes approximately one hour.

And even though you have tickets, we can't guarantee that you'll get in to the taping. The earlier you arrive to the studio to check in at Guest Relations (on California Street), the better chance you'll have. Unfortunately, there is no exact science. It all depends on the number of people vying to get into one show and on what time they started lining up. You must use your own judgment as to how early to arrive. You cannot arrive later than 3:15pm and be considered for entrance.

NBC is located at: 3000 W. Alameda Avenue Burbank, CA 91523

If you don't have tickets…see previous question/answer.

Q: I missed a show that I just have to see, what do I do?

A: It's called TiVo. Look into it. No, really, just between us, shows generally repeat the week after their original airdate. For instance, if you missed the show that was on Wednesday night, it will generally air the following Wednesday night at 2:05am. (Remember to set your VCR for 2:05am the next day since it's actually repeating after midnight.) To be on the safe side, check your local listings to confirm that time is correct due to local affiliate choice and/or time zone changes. And please don't ask us to come and set your VCR for you, we have to draw the line somewhere.

Q: May I buy a show or purchase a clip from a show?

A: You can, but you can't buy it for personal viewing or research purposes. We release footage for business-to-business broadcast purposes. It also ain't cheap. To inquire about purchasing a specific show or segment, please fax your request to: NBC Clip Licensing; Fax #: 818.526.7821. Be sure to include...

  • your name,
  • your contact information (including your email address),
  • what show or segment you're interested in,
  • the date of that show,
  • and how you intend to use the footage.
